Meet Jacquie Gering

MODERN QUILTER AND EDUCATOR

Meet Jacquie Gering, a modern quilter, author, and educator.

I can’t wait for Jacquie to be a guest for the Quilters Candy Membership on April 20th, 2021 at 7:30 pm CST.  Click here to join us.

I want to share Jacquie and some of her work with you.  She is a talented modern quilter who shares FREE tutorials, and speaks her mind through her art, aka quilting.

'Homage' Quilt by Jacquie Gering

Homage by Jacquie Gering

Jacquie Gering started quilting in 2009 after learning about and seeing quilts from the African American quilters of Gee’s Bend.

Jacquie herself is of Mennonite heritage and quilting has been a part of her family’s  history.  But growing up sewing her own clothes and being surrounded by quilting, Jacquie didn’t love it and wasn’t good at it (in her own words).  It wasn’t until discovering Gee’s Bend quilts at an exhibit that she was interested in quilting.  The freedom of those designs and how different it was from what she knew opened her up to the world of quilting.

Jacquie developed her own style of quilting that is minimal, geometric, and shares topics that are near and dear to her heart.

Bang Your Dead by Jacquie Gering

“‘Bang, You’re Dead’ was made in response to the violence in Chicago in 2012, in particular I was thinking of the children that are hurt and killed violently every day.” – Jacquie Gering

Since learning to quilt in 2009, Jacquie has published several books:

  • WALK: Master Machine Quilting with your Walking Foot

  • WALK 2.0: More Machine Quilting with Your Walking Foot

  • Quilting Modern: Techniques and Projects for Improvisational Quilts

  • Creative Quilting with Your Walking Foot

She was on the board of directors for the Modern Quilt Guild.

She’s written several FREE quilting tutorials here.
