It Takes A Village Play Mat
Sew a Story

Hello! I’m Jennifer Long, the creator behind Sew A Story and a passionate Early Childhood Educator turned Riley Blake Designs fabric designer. My journey has been fueled by a love for teaching and sharing the magic of fabric and projects, especially through early years education. I believe in lifting up others through creativity and hands-on experiences, which is why I run two memberships: the Pattern Club and the Modern Rag Doll membership. In addition to my design and teaching endeavors, I also manage the Pattern Department at Riley Blake Designs full-time and feel honored to contribute to this industry which I love, to create a high level of standards for quilt pattern writing and quality assurance.

The “It Takes A Village” FREE Playmat quilt pattern is a delightful addition for the children in your life, offering both fun and functionality. Featuring a beautifully designed city panel that sparks the imagination, this quilt encourages kids to explore and create their own stories as they play. The easy strip-pieced road border adds a charming touch, providing a perfect frame for countless adventures. Soft and durable, this quilt is designed to withstand the joys of playtime while being cozy enough for snuggles. Whether it’s for playdates, quiet time, or family gatherings, this quilt embodies the spirit of community and togetherness.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Please read all instructions before beginning this project. Yardage calculated using a 42″ usable width of fabric. Refer to the website: www.sewastory.com/pattern-updates for any revisions before starting this project. This pattern requires a basic knowledge of sewing techniques and terminology. The project diagrams portrayed are virtual images. The layout and look of your project may differ when using actual fabric. It is not recommended to prewash fabric before cutting and assembling.

Always verify your panel size before beginning. If your panel measurements differ from those given in the pattern, trim to the desired size or use coping strips to alter the size of your panel. If coping strips are needed, add oversized, coordinating strips of fabric to the necessary edges of the panel, then trim to the size specified in the pattern.
