After The Rain Quilt Along week 1

After The Rain Quilt Along week one

Welcome to week one of the After The Rain Quilt Along!

This week you will be gathering your fabric. I will share a few rainbows people have made to give you ideas for your fabric pull.

Be sure to read to the end to see what this week’s prize is, how to enter, and what comes next week!

HOW MUCH FABRIC YOU NEED

Do you wonder how much fabric you need? Here is a reminder.

FABRIC PULL IDEAS FOR AFTER THE RAIN QUILT

One of the most difficult yet fun parts of making a quilt is choosing the fabric.

To help you pick your fabric to make your ‘After The Rain’ quilt (in whatever size you choose), I have some finished quilts to share with you.

These are made by different quilters, and each quilter is tagged.  Be sure to visit their accounts to see the other fun things they’ve made!

FABRIC IDEAS

Liza Taylor of Liza Taylor Handmade used Rifle Paper Co. fabrics to make these mini ‘After The Rain’ blocks.

NOTE: Don’t stress over directional fabrics. I think it adds to the charm of the quilt and blocks if the fabrics aren’t perfectly directional.

Hawthorne Supply Company did a mock-up of the After The Rain quilt. They used their Bunny and Bloom fabrics designed by Erin Kendal.

@rachlanserhandmade made this moody and natural After The Rain quilt and I love it!

I love how this quilt can look good with both prints and solids.

Brittany of Lo and Behold Stitchery made a mini version of the After The Rain quilt.

I love the gradient oranges she used to make hers.

Rachel of Wren Collective made a solid fabric version that I just love!

I’ve made 4 versions of the After The Rain quilt. I love how the pattern works with both solids and prints. Here is a look at the different versions I’ve made.

NOTE: If you like my most recent version, I created a bundle with the needed fabric to make a matching quilt as mine. CLICK HERE to get that bundle.

DENIM FABRIC

@wildrose_company made this, one of my all-time favorite After The Rain quilts. The denim on this is just perfect. One day I want to make a lap size just like this!

I love how this mini was turned into a pillow, as well.

I love these jewell toned fabrics. These are ‘Heirloom’ fabrics for Ruby Star Society. You can get the fabrics in a bundle I created HERE.

QUILT FEATURED AT QUILTCON

I was thrilled to have this quilt accepted to Quilt Con in 2021.

The fabric for this are SMOL fabrics designed by Ruby Star Society.

MODERN SOLID FABRICS

I used some of my favorite solids from Art Gallery Fabrics. I wanted to stick to my favorite colors (at the time): oranges, purples, and browns.

For the record, these are still currently some of my favorite colors!

MY FIRST AFTER THE RAIN QUILT

I first made a mini version of the After The Rain quilt. Back then it even had a different title. It was called, ‘Over The Rainbow.’

I decided to change the name so the quilt would carry more meaning. I love how we can look for beauty and hope during the storms of our lives. I wanted the quilt to represent that.
