Want to make your own fabric pillowcase? You can make custom pillowcases, change them out for the seasons, or even have a child learn to sew!
My friend Jamie of @jamiesquiltstudio taught her son, Ian (who is 10), how to make a fabric pillowcase. He did it all by himself and as you can see, he loves how it turned out.
Below are the steps for you to make your very own fabric pillowcase.
These steps make a pillowcase that measure 29″ x 19″.
SUPPLIES
You’ll want to gather your supplies before you get started. Here’s what you’ll need for a 29″ x 19″ finished pillowcase:
The following steps make a fabric pillowcase that measures 29″ x 19″ when done.
With your supplies gathered, you will:
Fold your cuff fabric in half, WST.
It should measure 7″ x 42″.
Pin your folded cuff fabric RST with the body fabric. NOTE: The raw edges of your folded cuff should align with the outside edge of your body fabric. See photo below.
4. Sew the cuff RST to the body of the pillowcase. Be sure to backstitch at the beginning and end to secure your stitches.
5. Press the cuff outward with an iron. 6. Fold the pillow case in half RST. It should look like an inside out pillowcase at this point.
7. Sew with either a 1/4″ or a ½” seam starting at the cuff/opening end, making an ‘L’ shape as you sew.
You will sew along the long side, then along the bottom of your inside-out pillowcase. *Be sure to backstitch at the beginning and end of your sewing.
8. Turn your pillowcase inside out. You’re done! Wash and enjoy your new pillowcase!
