The Power of Creativity with Janet Clare

The Power of Creativity with Janet Clare Episode 148

THE POWER OF CREATIVITY WITH JANET CLARE

Janet Clare is a talented textile artist who shares her story, all about her business endeavors, her 100 Rejections Project, and the power of creativity.

In this episode Janet gives insight on:

  • Janet shares what she does in this creative space. She is a textile designer- largely in quilting and patchwork. She shares her story.
  • Viewing past endeavors as knowledge gained
  • How she got into designing fabric when she had previously been told that “her drawings weren’t good enough”.  Janet talks about how she didn’t let it affect her future. She immersed herself by drawing and doodling, gained that confidence to be authentic and was brave enough to put her style and uniqueness out there.
  • She talks about mindset and ignoring what everyone else is doing and sticking to what she loves.
  • Janet does some live TV shows! She shares what she does and how she got there. She does live TV on Sewing Street, presenting something new, every month. This helps her in selling her kits, books and patterns, which is a key step in the development of her business.
  • Her husband runs her business and helps her protect her time and she does everything creative and fun!
  • The thing that she loves providing and she encourages people to try is creating from a kit and pattern. These step by step projects will give you a guaranteed result, is not stressful because it is all there. Even if you use scraps and come up with something on your own. Being creative and sharing what you make is so great for your mental health. Creativity can be so powerful in many aspects.
  • She wrote her own patterns for about 8 years. Now, when she is developing new quilt patterns, she will make a block and write rough instructions and draw templates and then hands them over to her husband, who produces the final pattern. This is part of her pattern testing process.
  • She shares her best selling product, her posh personalized apron. It tells your own personal creative story. We are creators and it is unique and personal to you! This is her hero product. She didn’t originally intend to sell the pattern, but got some many requests. She shares the story about how this came about. Her apron she created became her “uniform”.
  • They talk applique, embroidery and patchwork and what sells best. She talks about what she wants to introduce in her business next and how she loves the freedom of being a textile artist.
  • Talk about running your own business and having clear goals, managing time and striving to find the balance of what to add and what to take away from your business. Speaks on the  challenges and benefits of running your own business with your husband.
  • We talk about what you want your business to look like, why you are doing it and what you want your business to feel like. Deciding what you want to do and what you should give others to do in your business. Giving too much of what you love doing to others, you will loose the joy and the reasons you started.
  • They also talk about competitiveness and dreams. You have to have goals and dreams! She shares some things she would LOVE to do.
  • Janet talks about rejection. Challenging yourself and submitting and not getting discouraged about rejections. Sometimes rejections have nothing to do with you or your product. Try to get to 100 rejections!
  • They talk about dreams and wish lists and goals. Janet  shares about what her perfect life would look like, and she is almost there.
  • Find her at Quilt Market at the Moda booth and at her workshop!
